ਮੂਰਖ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ
Do not keep company with a foolish one.

ਜਿਉਂ ਮਣਿ ਕਾਲੇ ਸਪ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਵਿਸੂ ਭਰਿਆ।
Having jewel in its head and knowing it not, the snake remains filled with poison.

ਜਾਣੁ ਕਥੂਰੀ ਮਿਰਗ ਤਨਿ ਝਾੜਾਂ ਸਿੰਙਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਫਰਿਆ।
It is known that musk remains in the body of deer, but it goes on smelling it franatically in the bushes.

ਜਿਉਂ ਕਰਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਸਿਪ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਰਮ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ।
The pearl dwells in the shell but the shell does not know the mystery.

ਜਿਉਂ ਗਾਈ ਥਣਿ ਚਿਚੁੜੀ ਦੁਧੁ ਨ ਪੀਐ ਲੋਹੂ ਜਰਿਆ।
The tick stuck with the teats of cow, takes not its milk but sucks the blood only.

ਬਗੁਲਾ ਤਰਣਿ ਨ ਸਿਖਿਓ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਇ ਨ ਪਥਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ।
Living in water the crane never learns how to swim and the stone, in spite of its ablutions at various pilgrimage centres cannot swim and go across.

ਨਾਲਿ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਭਲੀ ਭਿਖ ਮੂਰਖ ਰਾਜਹੁ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਸਰਿਆ।
That is why, begging in the company of wise people, is better then ruling over a kingdom alongwith Hoots.

ਮੇਖੀ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਗਾੜੈ ਖਰਿਆ ॥੮॥
Because he who himself is fake, will also spoil the pure one.

ਨੋਟ: ਇਹ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਹਨ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਾ ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੁੜ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਝਾਤੀ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਫਰੀਦ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਣ "ਫਰੀਦਾ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਅਕਲਿ ਲਤੀਫੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਲਿਖੁ ਨ ਲੇਖ ॥ ਆਪਨੜੇ ਗਿਰੀਵਾਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ॥" ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਵਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਖਾਦੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਥਾਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਸਰ ਉਥੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਦਰਦ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਕਲੀਫ ਹੋਵੇ। ਤੇ ਜੇ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ।
