ਘੁੱਘੂ ਸੁਝ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਵਸਦੀ ਛਡਿ ਰਹੈ ਓਜਾੜੀ।
Owl does not have any thoughtful understanding and
leaving habitats lives in deserted places.
ਇਲਿ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਨਾ
ਪੜ੍ਹੈ ਚੂਹੇ ਖਾਇ ਉਡੇ ਦੇਹਾੜੀ।
Kite cannot be taught texts and eating rats keeps on
flying the whole day.
ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ
ਵਾਂਸ ਨੋ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਗਿ ਨ ਚੰਦਣ ਵਾੜੀ।
Even being in the garden of sandal wood, the egotist
bamboo does not get fragrant. |
ਸੰਖ ਸਮੁੰਦਹੁ
ਸਖਣਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹੀਣਾ ਦੇਹ ਵਿਗਾੜੀ।
As the conch remains empty though liviing in sea, the
person devoid of the wisdom of Guru (gurmati) is spoiling his body.
ਸਿੰਮਲੁ ਬਿਰਖੁ
ਨ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਆਪ ਗਣਾਏ ਵਡਾ ਅਨਾੜੀ।
The cotton-silk tree does not bear fruit howsoever
much that colorless may brag of its greatness.
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਫਕੜਿ ਪਵੈ
ਰਿਹਾੜੀ ॥੪॥
Only fools quarrels over trivialities (insignificant issues). |

ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਲਈ

ਵੇਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਕੁੜ੍ਹ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਝਾਤੀ ਮਾਰਕੇ
ਵੇਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਫਰੀਦ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਫੁਰਮਾਨ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਲੈਣ "ਫਰੀਦਾ
ਜੇ ਤੂ ਅਕਲਿ ਲਤੀਫੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਲਿਖੁ ਨ ਲੇਖ ॥ ਆਪਨੜੇ ਗਿਰੀਵਾਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਰੁ
ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੁ ॥" ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਵਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਖਾਦੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਥਾਣੀ
ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਅਸਰ ਉਥੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਦਰਦ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਕਲੀਫ ਹੋਵੇ। ਤੇ
ਜੇ ਇਹ ਬੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਕਲੀਫ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਣਾ
ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ।
