Brampton: Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, one of the world’s most prestigious awards, was presented to 17 year old Brampton boy Pavninder Athwal on September 12, 2012 at the Ottawa Convention Centre. A student at the Appleby College, Pavninder  Athwal received the Award from His Royal Highness Prince Edward.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award was created 50 years ago to recognize the best overall student which includes community service, skills development, physical fitness and outdoor expeditions.

Pavninder earlier represented Canada at the UN Global Leader conference in 2011.

Pavninder who speaks Punjabi, English, French and Dutch won a scholarship for a study program in Germany. If being a Martial Arts brown belt tucked under his belt is not enough, he is also due to get his degree in music from the Thames University!
